Claude account ban FAQ

All answers are based on Anthropic’s public policies. Tap a question to expand it.

Can I use Claude from mainland China?

No. Mainland China isn't on Anthropic's supported regions list. Using Claude while physically in an unsupported region, or through an organisation controlled from one, breaks the policy and can get the account banned.

Why do Claude accounts get banned?

Anthropic lists three main reasons: repeated Usage Policy violations, creating an account from an unsupported region, and Terms of Service violations, such as being under 18 or sharing or reselling an account.

How do I appeal a Claude ban?

Sign in to claude.ai with the banned account and use “Submit an appeal” on the restricted-account page (claude.ai/restricted). You have to be signed in to see the form.

How long does an appeal take?

Anthropic doesn't promise a timeframe and says responses are currently slower than usual. Submit one complete appeal and wait; don't send duplicates.

Can I export my data after a ban?

Yes. Free, Pro and Max users can still sign in to export or delete their data, though some data may be restricted depending on the violation.

Is there a minimum age?

Yes. The Consumer Terms require you to be at least 18.

Can I share my account with a friend?

No. The Terms prohibit sharing login credentials or letting others use your account, and logins from many places are a common risk signal.

Are “guaranteed no-ban” accounts or top-up services safe?

No. Buying or using an account someone else registered breaks the Terms. It's the highest-risk option, and you can't recover such an account through an official appeal.
